Santorini

Thira Municipality consists of the island of Santorini, Thirassia, Palea and Nea Kameni and Aspronissi. It is the southernmost island of the Cyclades and is one of the top tourist destinations worldwide. Its uniqueness is due to its rich and special geomorphology, which derives from the active volcano, located in the famous caldera of the island.

Volcanic soil is the cause of the rare and exclusive products that are locally produced, such as wine, Santorini fava and Santorini tomato (all three PDO products). The island’s economy is heavily reliant on tourism and in providing services to visitors, where hundreds of businesses offer high quality services, accessible to all levels of visitors. Viticulture is also the most important agricultural sector in Santorini. According to the latest census data, the permanent population is about 15,500.
